Cemetery Decorations and Plantings

✅ What is Allowed

  • Seasonal Decorations:
    • Summer: Flower pots, urns, and grave blankets may be placed from May 1 to
      September 30.
    • Winter: Winter plot decorations are allowed from November 1 to March 31.
  • Veterans:
    • Flags and flag holders are provided.
    • Flags are placed each year just before Memorial Day.
  • Flowers:
    • Perennials may be planted in urns or vases on either side of the memorial.
    • Annuals must be planted within 12 inches of the memorial and not extend past
      lot boundaries when in full bloom.
    • Cut flowers are allowed under the same conditions as annuals.
    • Artificial flowers may be placed on the sides or in front of the memorial, same as
      regular flowers.

❌ What is Prohibited

  • Planting of trees, shrubs, or landscaping by individuals.
  • Use of mounds, bricks, blocks, or borders that interfere with lawn maintenance.
  • Use of surfaces other than earth or sod.
  • Use of glass containers or items.
  • Benches, statues, trellises, signs, fences, or any other items not expressly allowed by
    ordinance.
  • Digging, grading, or altering the ground without Township authorization.
  • Placement of ornaments, grave border materials, or other structures not allowed by
    ordinance.

⚠️ Township Rights & Responsibilities

  • The Township Board may remove or trim any trees or plants for maintenance or
    appearance.
  • The Township is not liable for accidental damage to plantings during routine
    maintenance.
  • The Township may remove unsightly or deteriorated decorations or items that interfere
    with upkeep.
  • All refuse (e.g., dried flowers, wreaths, plastic containers) must be removed within 10
    days after a burial, or placed in a Township-provided disposal container if available.
