Assesing
Assessor Information
Assessing is the method used to determine how much taxpayers will pay in property taxes. Property taxes are charges to taxpayers for the costs of governmental programs and services that benefit the general public and to finance public improvements, such as a road project or new fire station.
All taxable property within a township must be annually assessed by the township supervisor or other assessor (MCL 211.10) who is certified as qualified by the State Assessors Board. (MCL 211.10d)

Annual Assessment Roll
Each year, the Assessor prepares an Assessment Roll that identifies:
All taxable real and personal property within the Township
Assessed value of each property
Taxable value of each property
Property values are determined as of December 31 (Tax Day).

March Board of Review Process
The Assessor presents the Assessment Roll to the Board of Review by the Tuesday following the first Monday in March.
Notices of assessment increases are mailed to affected property owners at least 10 days prior to that date.
These increases will be reflected in that year’s summer and winter tax bills.
The Board of Review meets in March to examine and adjust property values as necessary. Property owners who wish to appeal their assessment must first present their case to the March Board of Review. If denied, they may then appeal to the Michigan Tax Tribunal.
